The Presentation
The Capstone
The capstone presentation went okay. it was stressful because i forgot my poster board and my poster, however, overall i did well. i explained to my judge my project well and utilized my website to show more information. once the day started, it all went smoothly.
capstone presentations were long and the class was just as long. I am glad that it is all over. I did not have a problem with capstone, I thought it was a good class.

Capstone presentation
for my capstone presentation, I have multiple levels to make my booth awesome.
- I will have a banner above as always
- I will have a tv from home to play my PSA in the background as well as my charts and shematics
- I will also have my laptop open with the website up for people to browse
- I will have an interactive display to pull apart and put together so that people can see how the project functions
- I will also have posters with the charts and informational data. the key will be to have a lot of visuals to help explain the project
- Lastly, I will have some candy like everyone else

Mr. Manes visit
The Visit
After the visit today in IMED, Mr.Manes told us a lot of valuable information about capstone. He told us that non of us were declined and that we can tweak our end products as much as we would like. He also told us that the length is also not an object as long as it's atleast 15 pages.
overall, it helped clear up some things for me. It also helped me feel less stressed about the approval and non approval. the fact we aren't required to use every aspect we create also easses me a bit. I hope that now things will go smoother in capstone and in IMED.

A PSA!!
Doing a PSA
The Reading
Upon reading the document on how to make a PSA, there were some things that came to mind. The document was a very insightful read and it made a lot of sense. I never thought about how long PSA's were bad. It makes me think of those PETA commercials and how they drag on forever. I also never though of how sound effects actually bring images to mind. I haven't seen it done effectively, but I do recall the cheesy type of PSA's and how the overuse of sounds gave a bad effect to the piece.
The PSA's
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tnM_pvqLIpY
The first PSA is about the "don't vpte" campaighn that came out a few years ago. it was really effective. they brought in the actors and had them do a funny skit telling people "don't vote."
there were no anoying sound effects, no random music, just a clean white background and people talking. it was however a long PSA, but I believe it was very effective.

The second was another "Don't vote." the same thing was done with the second one and it worked wonderfully. four years ago "Don't vote" did another video and once again, it was funny, clear, and got the point across to "vote." it was 4:41 minutes but it was good nonthe les.
for my PSA,
ill emphisise the growing need for water globally, and the stats of there only being 2.5% pure water.
ill get some visuals from africa since that is my region, and some audio talking about the matter.
ill outline like this:
overall problem globally
the effects of unclean water
the aeffects in africa
the numbers
the solution

About My Poster!
Posters
1) With respects to my project, clean water is a very serious thing. My approach to this project is very serious, i feel the topic is very important; however, my poster is going to be the opposite. I want my poster to be vibrant and draw people to the project so that I can tell them about the issue. I feel that serious and scary posters would scare away interested people with it's complexities.
2) As far as a quote, i was thinking something catchy like " the building blocks of a healthy life" a quote like that would resonate the UN goal aspect of this whole thing.
3) The size remains unset to me, but that is more of something ill know in the end I guess.
4)I already have a stand for my poster as well.
My Capstone Project
My capstone project is
a solar decelerator. I plan on utilizing the power of the sun to cause water to go through a water cycle and clean itself in the process. I will be utilizing the green house gas effect by trapping in solar rays to evaporate water in a pressure cooker. at this point it will evaporate leaving all impurities behind at the bottom of the cooker. the h2o molecules will go into the next container. in addition to this i will hook up a thermal engine to the outside to collect leftover heat to power the device in the evenings when sunlight is unavailable.
my project was rejected by the capstone board. they stated that they believed that my project needed a mentor to supervise my project as well as a clearer explanation of it.

Poster Research
Creating a Poster
according to http://www.psprint.com/resources/printing-tips-and-techniques/poster/printing-rules.php
the five rules for designing posters are:
1) Design to Impress: all elements need to be well thought out and interwoven well with each other.example: the picture is set in dark overall. even the man is shown by use of the match
2) Poster needs to be 1/3 text and 2/3 Visuals: This rule is flexible, but should be kept in mind for keeping the audience engaged.
example: it utilizes the ratio well
3) Big Headlines: This is important in catching your audiences attention
Example: the words "shutter Island" are written largely and work with the image below to grab attention.
4) Print Glossy!: The texture make the difference. it lets the audience know the quality of your work and often determines their readiness to accept it!
Example: the poster is on high resolution, and was printed glossy
5) Print standard size!: size is important. Staying proportional and not overdoing it keeps you from overwhelming your audience.
Example: it uses the print size standard ratio!
The poster above is a great example of utilization of the five themes!
